In November, the government issued a notice to pet owners asking them to renew their pet passport after four years.
The deadline is set for July 1, 2019, but pet passport holders can still renew their passport.
Pet passports are issued to owners for life, and are not transferable.
Pet owners can renew their passports online and pay the renewal fee at the Pet Passport Office.
In a statement, the Home Ministry said, “This notice does not constitute an order to the pet owners to return their pet passports to the government.
It is only to inform them that the passport expires on the date specified.”
In 2016, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had issued a warning to pet passport owners to take care of their pet, stating that “there are no exceptions to the requirement of a pet passport in case of an emergency.”
“The MHA has clarified that a pet will not be required to remain in the country for a longer period of time after a passport is issued,” the ministry added.
The MCA also stated that pets have a right to be kept in their respective home country for at least three years.
