What if my passport expires before my travel visa expires?
What if the expiry date for my travel permit expires?
If your travel visa expiry has already expired, you have a right to request a renewal of your travel permit for one year from the date your passport expired.
If your travel document expires before the expiring date of your visa, you should apply for an extension of time for travel to Canada.
The extension may be granted by the issuing agency, a government department, or a court.
You may have to pay a fee for the extension, but it is free.

How long do I have to keep my passport valid for to be eligible for a visa?
You must keep your passport valid and in good repair for a period of at least two years after the date on which it was issued.
The length of time you have to maintain your passport in good condition will depend on the type of visa issued.
If your passport is issued for travel outside Canada, you might have to renew it after two years.
If the travel is not in Canada, your passport will not have to expire until you have visited Canada for at least one year.
How do I get an expiry stamp?
If you want to get an expired passport expirment stamp, you are required to submit an application to the Passengers Registration Office, the provincial or territorial office of the issuing provincial or territory of Canada.
You will also need to provide a photo ID and a proof of age that can be easily verified.
To apply for expiry stamps, you only need to fill out an application form.
You also need a passport photo ID (such as a driver’s licence or passport), proof of your age, proof of residency in Canada (i.e. passport or proof of birth certificate), and proof of Canadian citizenship.
If there is no proof of citizenship, you also need an identity card.
If a valid passport or identity card is not available, you still need to submit proof of residence in Canada.
If proof of identity is not required, you do need to send a copy of your photo ID to your provincial or provincial or local passport office, provincial or municipal office, or provincial office for the municipality in which you reside.
The Passengers Registrar at the Passages offices will also accept passport expiries that you have made online.
If it is a new application, you’ll need to visit the Passings offices to complete an application and obtain an expiries stamp.
